Maintain Line Types and Attributes

Purpose

Create Line Attributes and assign Attributes to created Line Types, to facilitate creating desired Lines in the Organization’s Sites.

Prerequisites

The Organization has been created.

Line Types and Line Attributes

Line Types and Line Attributes are used in assigning products to lines during the Product Wheel design process.  They are a useful reference to the scheduler after design when orders need to be moved across lines.

Line Types and Line Attributes are flexible way to describe the characteristics of a line that are relevant to scheduling and sequencing.  For example, line types might be mixing, encapsulation, compression, coating, packaging, canning, bottling, ..., etc.  Line attributes further define the capabilities of the line, for example, a bottling line that can fill 0.5 to 2.0 liters bottles, a canning line for #10 cans, or a packaging line that wraps large count packages.

Steps

The pages for creating and maintaining Line Attributes and Line Types can be accessed through two routes.

  1. On the Setup > Sites screen, by clicking the buttons Line Types or Line Attributes.

  2. On an individual Site’s page. An Area must already be created in the Site. Click one of the Area’s entries to make the Lines in Area section appear. The Line Types and Line Attributes buttons can be found here.

Line Attributes

  1. Click Line Attributes. This will take you to the Line Attributes page.

  2. To create a new Line Attribute, click Create.

  3. To edit an existing Line Attribute, click Edit under the right “Actions” column of the Attribute’s entry.

  4. Whether creating or editing a Line Attribute, a window with the same entries will open.

    • Name: The name of the Attribute.

    • Type: The type of the Attribute. Chosen from the following options:

      • Operating-mode: Indicates the mode of operation of the Line.

      • Number: For numerical attributes of the Line.

      • Text: For text-based attributes of the Line.

  5. To delete a Line Attribute, click  under the right “Actions” column.

Line Types

  1. Click Line Types. This will take you to the Line Types page.

  2. To create a new Line Type, click Create.

  3. To edit an existing Line Type, click Edit under the right “Actions” column of the Line Type’s entry.

  4. Whether creating or editing a Line Type, a window with the same entries will open.

    • Name of Line Type: The name of the Line Type.

    • Attributes: The Attributes that belong to and define the Line Type. Select all desired Attributes from the drop-down, or search and select.

  5. To delete an existing Line Type, click  under the right “Actions” column of the Line Type’s entry.
