Maintain Units of Measure (UoM)

Purpose

To create new Units of Measure for Materials and Resources as well as to maintain conversion factors from one unit to another.

Prerequisites

The organization must be created, but does not have to be fully configured.

If a unit of measure is to be used for a Material (order quantity, etc.) then it must be defined before use.

If a unit of measure is for a Resource, then it does not have to be created before the Resource. If the Resource is created first, a UoM with the same name will be created automatically. See Maintain Resources for more information on creating Resources.

Steps

  1. Click on the menu path Setup>Units of Measure to open the Units of Measure screen.

  2. To create a new unit of measure, click on Add at the top of the screen, and enter the name of the new UoM.

  3. To delete a unit of measure, click on Remove in the right “Actions” column of the UoM’s entry.

  4. Create any conversions between the new UoM and the existing UoM(s) by clicking Create Conversion under the Conversions header.

  5. Edit existing conversions by clicking Edit in the right “Actions” column of the conversion’s entry.

    1. Creating or Editing a conversion opens a window with the same layout:

      • Convert from: The UoM to convert from.

      • To: The UoM to convert to.

      • Material: If the conversion applies only to a particular Material, enter the Material’s unique identifier. Leave blank to apply to all Materials.

        • If there is a conversion that applies to all Materials and other conversions for specific Materials, the general conversion will apply to all Materials that do not have a specific conversion.

      • Conversion ratio: The amount of the “from UoM” that is equal to one “to UoM”.

    2. Conversions can also be created by using Phenix’s Import option Unit Conversion. See the How-To article Import Data to learn more about the import process, and Unit Conversion Import for more on the import mapping options of the Unit Conversion Import.

  6. To delete an existing conversion, click Remove in the right “Actions” column of the conversion’s entry.

A conversion in Phenix works both ways. If Phenix has a conversion from cases to pallets, it does not need another conversion from pallets to cases.

Phenix can do multistep conversions. If there is a conversion from cases to pallets, and then a conversion from pallets to truckload, Phenix can automatically convert from cases to truckload.

Testing Conversions

Make use of the Test Conversions section of the page to see how Phenix uses the conversions it has and ensure they are entered properly.
